The Egyptian Mau Club – Meet the Committee Members

The Egyptian Mau Club commitee members are voted on by the members to represent the club. The committee are willing to help in any aspect regarding the Egyptian Mau.

The Egyptian Mau Club are saddened at the death of Jo Higgins, a long term member, former Chair and membership secretary of our club. Jo has owned and bred Egyptian Maus for many years and was the proud owner of Sobekoteo Mwsher (Muse) who won the first Challenge Certificate when the breed achieved full status. Jo was a real stalwart of our breed and its welfare and she will be sadly missed for her strength of character and wicked sense of humour by all who knew her.

My love for animals started at a young age. My parents were heavily involved in animal charity work and our family home was always brimming with dogs, puppies, cats and kittens. It wasn’t long after moving into my own home that I got two little tabby kittens. Tragically, one died aged around 2. That was it for a few years. Then I saw on TV what I now know to be an Egyptian Mau, the cat was absolutely stunning! I was intrigued to learn more so I read up on their characteristics – social, affectionate, playful and athletic. I knew this was the breed I wanted and would fit in perfectly to my life. I resisted getting the Mau for a number of years as I was unsure how he would interact with my tabby but I needn’t have worried – they got on just fine. That was a few years ago and my tabby has since passed but I’m left with a lovely little Mau family; yes I got more! They have all of the characteristics as above and more; so much so they are like little monkeys… hence why I had to have the prefix MonkeyMau

Michele Codd

I started showing and breeding Burmese in 1981, and became a judge in 1993. In 2000, I met and was entranced by the newly introduced Egyptian Mau, and hasn’t looked back! I now judges cats in Sections 2, 4, 5 and 6, including of course my beloved Egyptian Mau cats. To keep busy, I also judge dressage and show Borzoi hounds.
